Exploring new ideas

Over the Summer, I decided to take a few classes to ensure my capability of graduating in the Spring, as planned. I took a studio lighting course, advanced digital and photogravure. All of these classes were absolutely incredible and really allowed me to explore photography, as well as myself.

I don’t have any of my photogravure projects documented yet, but I’ll show a few projects from my other two classes. Enjoy!

Growing On

Past experiences can often leave a person broken. Figuring out what to do next and how to piece everything back together is never easy, and takes a great deal of time. It’s like falling, and reaching for something above you to grasp onto, but I keep falling and falling, with nothing and no one to hold onto. I’m left empty and praying that maybe, just maybe, I’ll figure out how to fly. It’d be easier if I had wings or a handbook, even. Growing up is a part of discovering every inch of your own mind so you can learn how to control it. How do you control your emotions? How can one forget the bad stuff long enough to allow new memories to copy over?

This body of work represents a disconnect with relationships and growing on from experiences that I’ve allowed to linger and haunt me, preventing me from being open to experiences and people that I could learn so much from. I chose to shoot these digitally, covering my lens with pantyhose to add a filter and fuzziness between the subject and the viewer to further emphasize a disconnect between myself and the relationship. The text included on some of the images are from letters I have received, and included in hopes to exaggerate my reaction to the overwhelming, almost overbearing emotions I feel.

I chose to do this work because it was and is important to overcome the challenge of growing on from the past. Using art for what it is, an expression of oneself to grow, change and discover in hopes of a resolution.

These are all printed 22″ x 34″.

Large Format

Over the year I’ve had the opportunity to work more with film — back to the basics, some would say. Working with film as led to more work in the darkroom, developing my own film and making my own prints. I’ve been working with 35mm as well as 4×5, color and black & white.

Large Format-4×5: These are all a part of an on going series I am working on with my sister that has to do with her life and how she lives with severe scoliosis.

All of these are printed 18″ x 24″.

So, it sure has been a while since I’ve updated. School has taken over my life, leaving me little time to tend to other things, unfortunately. So here I am, updating with images from weddings I worked over the summer. I hope you enjoy!

Water Shoot

Hey guys! I’ve recently had the awesome opportunity of shooting with my friend Kirstie this summer. She had the brilliant idea of trying out a little water shoot and was kind enough to let me tag along and grab a few shots as well. Here are a few:

So, this is what’s up. I’ve recently made some incredible friends down here in the ATL, one of them being Erinleigh Kinyanjui with Misfit Creative based out of Atlanta. I met Erinleigh through her brother, Richard from school, Savannah College of Art and Design. Anyways, through Erinleigh, I was able to meet some pretty amazing people, doing very amazing things with their incredible musical talents. INOWEJAMM members Joni Portee, Jamie Portee, Chinua Hawk, and Seth Condrey, a group coming together with their musical talents for their Out Of Line project benefitting Redeemed, Inc-an Atlanta based organization. Check out their website for more information on their amazing talents and for purchasing their EP album. Here are some photographs I got while spending time with this wonderful group:

Emily Detrick also shot with me, and I’m certain it’s 100% A-Okay for me to say we all had an absolute blast with this shoot.

Come back soon!

Atlanta: Hittin’ the Town

So, I love living in Atlanta. (the color in these photos is sucked out, unfortunately)

Maybe Spring will come early this year

Today was an absolutely beautiful day. It was about 60 degrees, so I went out and shot a little bit for my photo class.
